Kuala Lumpur 7th Triennial:
Barricade, 16 Feb – 02 March 2013,
White Box, MAP @ Publika
“Following on KLT6: Artifice, this year’s Kuala Lumpur Triennial has taken on the theme of the Barricade. The title refers to recent contestations over public space which generally take two forms. On the one hand, there are the ad hoc insurgent constructions of the citizenry or the soft barricades of citizen swarms. And on the other hand, we find the engineered and purpose-built apparatuses of control used in the policing of public space. The barricade is any apparatus or heap that separates the state from a proto-state that has formed within its boundaries. And like any apparatus, or heap, the barricade has a form and a complex disjunctive aesthetics. This exhibition explores the barricade as political apparatus and artistic form.”
KLT#7 is curated by Ray Langenbach (Malaysia/USA) and Nani Kahar (Malaysia). Other curatorial projects in the Triennial include selections from the Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film Festival, curated by Kok Siew Wai, a rock component curated by Joe Kidd, and installations, performance and images selected by Yeoh Lian Heng.
